Updated regulations released

There have been a few "new" regulations and pamphlets distributed by National HQ in the last couple of weeks. If you haven't logged onto eServices, you may not have realized this.
22 July 2010: CAPR 100-1 was put in effect.
22 July 2010: CAPR 174-1 was put in effect.
11 August 2010: CAPR 10-1 was put in effect.
and 25 August 2010: CAPP211

Everyone should be aware of the changes in these regulations, pamphlets, and letters, and how they may influence your CAP activities.

New training available

Equal Opportunity, Operational Risk Management, and Aircraft Ground Handling Training are three new training requirements available online at NHQ for seniors and cadets. You will be required to login for each training course and once the training is completed, your records on eServices will update automatically.

Aircraft Ground Handling Video

As you know, CAP requires all members who regularly come in contact with aircraft or supervise air operations to view a 13 minute aircraft ground handling training video and take a short test. We have been advised that some members are having trouble finding the video in eServices. Thanks to the efforts of Joe Hall, John Sanderson and Pete Kalisky, all members of the NHQ staff, it is now easier to link to the Ground Handling video.
A link has been placed on the National website Safety page and Stan/Eval page, and has been imbedded in the notification of the viewing requirement letter on the ICL page (30 Mar 09). Clicking on this link will take the member to the eServices log-in page. Once the eServices user ID and password have been entered, the member will be taken directly to the home page for the video.
Please ensure the widest dissemination of this information to those members within your command who need to complete this training.

The Lubbock Composite Squadron (TX-293/Lubbock, TX) placed a wreath by the gravestone of "George Andrew Davis, Jr.", a Medal of Honor winner from the Korean war.

The Three Rivers Flight (TX-123/Carlsbad, TX) conducted their first ever Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Grape Creek Cemetery. For more information click on the Three Rivers Flight page.

Commemorative Air Force AIRSHO 2010

The Midland Commemorative Air Force AIRSHO 2010 commenced on Friday evening and Group I units answered the call.

Cadets and seniors from Amarillo, Lubbock, San Angelo units TX-023 and TX-806, and Grape Creek assisted the Midland Squadron cadets and seniors in providing security and safety for patrons at the show. Personnel were assigned to specific "flights" and were deployed throughout the fighter ramp and front of the "Fifi" hangar to ensure patrons were able to get "up close and personal" with the aircraft, without putting themselves in danger or damaging the aircraft. Additionally, when one of the aircraft began their "run-up" to depart the area and perform in the show, the Group I units provided sanitation of the fighter ramp to allow the departing aircraft to safely and quickly reach the runways or return to their parking place.

Cadets and seniors spent Friday and Saturday evening billeted at the "Agri-Empressa" building, a short distance from the airfield.

West Texas SAREX
10-12 September 2010

The West Texas SAREX began with Friday night briefings for staff and those members preparing sorties for the early Saturday portion. The Saturday activities were "hot and heavy" with the temperature and humidity reaching the "feel's like" of 104.

Aircraft safely flew over Tom Green, Schleicher, Irion, Coke, and Sterling counties to conduct reconnaissance and photography of various sites. Ground teams safely did Urban Search and Rescue exercises and Electronic Locator Transmitter searches.

The Civil Air Patrol would like to thank the San Angelo Emergency Management Office and the 217th Training Squadron Texas Air National Guard for their assistance and participation in the weekend.

For those Civil Air Patrol members from outside of Group I, we appreciate your participating in the exercise and assisting our members with becoming qualified in their chosen specialties.

Finally, to all those Group I members who participated in the activity, congratulations for conducting a successful, safe, and productive exercise. Now the task of remaining proficient becomes the new goal. Watch for more activities in Group I.
